Im Rahmen der Erinnerung an „90 Jahre Spanischer Bürgerkrieg“ stellt die preisgekrönte Fotografin Espe Pons aus Barcelona ihr neues Fotobuch vor.  MAYBE NEVER AGAIN beleuchtet die oft übersehene Rolle ausländischer Frauen im Kampf gegen den Faschismus im Spanischen Bürgerkrieg.  Neben bekannten Persönlichkeiten wie der französischen Philosophin Simone Weil werden darin auch die beiden Stuttgarter Jüdinnen Gerda Taro und Betty Rosenfeld gewürdigt.  Im Hotel Silber präsentiert Espe Pons ihr Fotoprojekt gemeinsam mit Michael Uhl, Biograf von Betty Rosenfeld und Taro-Biografin Irme Schaber.

In Espe Pons’ three-year-long project MAYBE NEVER AGAIN the history in question is that of the Spanish Civil War, and more specifi cally the role played by foreign women who made enormous personal sacrifi ces to join the Republican’s fi ght against fascism – whether on the front lines, or in the makeshift hospitals and tended the wounded International Brigades militia. These women included well-known names alongside those who have remained invisible: from British medical administrator and nurse Nan Green and nurse Thora Silverthorne; North American nurses Esther Silverstein Blanc and May Levine; to the Polish physician, activist and historian Dora Lorska; the prominent Italian-Mexican photographer Tina Modotti; the French philosopher and political activist Simone Weil; the Swiss journalist Clara Thalmann; and the North American writer, historian and environmentalist Fredericka Martin. Espe Pons begins by photographing the places where these women worked – including Brunete, Albacete, Huete and Mataró. History is rendered visible in its absences: in arid landscapes, ruined villages, empty interiors.
The book contains texts by: Sarah Edith James, Jo Labanyi, Tabea Alexa Linhard, Carolina Rodríguez López, María Belén Sáez de Ibarra and Nancy Wallach.
